Dr John Hatfield BDS DPDS (GDC no. 66738)

John attended Chipping Sodbury School before studying dentistry at Guys Hospital, University of London and graduating in 1991.  He worked here at the Ridge Dental with Dr Ingrid Arntzen for 6 years and later at another practice in Bristol. In 2001 John purchased the Ridge Dental Surgery.

John is committed to continuing education and undertakes various postgraduate studies, obtaining the Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies (DPDS) in 1996.

John was one of the first general dentists in the UK to be trained in the provision of Invisalign braces.

In 2005 John completed the Step-Wise Dental Implant Course, training in the placement and restoration of Nobel Biocare Dental Implants and has been placing dental implants since. This includes single implants supporting crowns, bridges supported by implants, dentures retained by implants and "all on 4" full arch implant restorations.

John has completed many orthodontic courses and is experienced in many different types of braces, often combining orthodontic treatment with use of implants and other cosmetic treatments to achieve the best result possible.

John has spent many hours at postgraduate courses, both in Europe and USA, and is always looking to learn from the very best teachers available.

Dr Kathryn Bell BChD MJDF (GDC No. 85956)

Kathryn qualified, from Leeds University, as a dental surgeon in 2005, being placed in the top 10% of her year. Kathryn has always strived to achieve excellence in everything that she does. In 2010, Kathryn achieved membership of the General Dental Practitioners from the Royal College of Surgeons. During her professional career she has gained considerable experience in all aspects of general dentistry and works cohesively with our hygienists to provide in-depth periodontal and preventative care.

Kathryn has special interests in restorative and cosmetic dentistry and has completed professional training with Invisalign, Smilelign and in Facial Aesthetic treatments. Kathryn provides fixed braces, having completed a year long study program.

With a friendly and caring approach, Kathryn likes to work closely with her patients to achieve their desired result.

Dr Lucy Grant BDS (GDC no. 284247)

Lucy qualified from Kings College London and has worked in several practices in the South West. Lucy has a particular interest in trying to make nervous patients feel more at ease by creating a calm and comfortable environment. General family dentistry is what she really enjoys and where she sees her future, although she does also have an interest in endodontics (root fillings).

Outside of dentistry you would likely find Lucy on one of Bristol's squash courts/hockey pitches or golf courses.

Dr Oscar Hatfield BDS (Hons) BSc (Hons) (GDC no. 289712)

Some may remember Oscar working at the practice during his time in 6th form and during his work experience placement, before going on to study dentistry at Kings in 2014.

Oscar graduated from King’s College London with honours. During his time at university, he intercalated for a year, gaining a First-Class Honours Bachelor of Science, in Neuroscience, his final dissertation was on a type of facial called trigeminal neuralgia.  

Before returning to Bristol, Oscar has been working as a dentist in Devon, whilst continuing to study to become a Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, for which he has completed the first stage.

Outside of dentistry, Oscar has a passion for photography and enjoys cold-water swimming, surfing, hockey and traveling (pre-covid).

Emily Paget Dip DHT (GDC no. 289698)

Emily is our dental Therapist.

Emily graduated from Birmingham University in 2020 and is able to provide

periodontal treatment (treatment of gum disease), fillings and Dental Health Checks.

In her spare time, Emily enjoys paddle-boarding and painting.

Emily Groves (GDC no. 282116)

Emily is one of our dental Therapists.

Emily graduated from University of Sheffield in June 2023 with a Diploma of Hygiene Therapy,

 and also provides periodontal treatment (treatment of gum disease), fillings

and Dental Health Checks.

In her spare time, Emily enjoys lots of swimming and going to the gym.

Emily Hatfield BSc (GDC no. 222306)

Emily first started working with us in 2008, training as a dental nurse, before going on to train as a dental Therapist. Emily returned to Ridge Dental in 2020 and offers mini smile makeovers here.

We are very proud to announce that she won ‘Best Dental Therapist of the year 2022’ award for the UK!

She graduated from the University of the Highlands and Islands in Scotland.

Emily loves travelling – embracing and experiencing new cultures and food!

Dental Nurses:

Melanie Cook (GDC no. 133601) first worked here at the Ridge Dental in 1991 and returned in 2001.  She is very experienced in all aspects of dental nursing and holds a certificate in dental radiography.

Our dental nurses assist the dentists in all aspects of clinical dentistry. Melanie also has trained in the taking of dental impressions and dental scans with our Itero and Medit intra-oral scanners. 

 

Ash (GDC no. 279725) qualified as dental nurse in 2018. Vicky (GDC no. 304409) qualified in 2022. Then Jemma (GDC no. 312317) qualified in 2023. They are valuable members of our team with a cheerful, conscientious and caring approach to their work.

​

Ruby, Thea and Lois are our apprentice dental nurses, with Lois and Thea due to qualify soon.

​

Our dental nurses assist the dentists in all aspects of clinical dentistry, will always listen to you and are sensitive to your needs as a patient.  They will ensure you are as comfortable as possible during your visit.

Receptionists:

Beverley, Becky, Hannah and Reese keep the practice running smoothly and efficiently.  They are your first point of contact with the practice.  They organize appointments, answer the telephone and deal with your paperwork and accounts.

If you wish to talk to or contact one of the dentists, please telephone our receptionist who will be more than happy to pass any message on to us.  Sometimes your dentist will give you an answer through the receptionist, or arrange for a dentist to speak with you at a mutually convenient time.
